Romelu Lukaku
Is the interest real?
Do we even have a chance?
If the answer to both of the above is YES, should we get him in?

It won't be cheap but he's an upgrade on Antonio and could thrive being a big player at a club like West Ham for a few years.

It's been a while since we've had a player capable of scoring 20 goals in a season, he's definitely got the potential to be the first!

His 30 goals in his last season at Inter is almost 50% of what our highest Premier League goalscorer Antonio has achieved in his 7.5 seasons at West Ham (61).

Fuck knows what he's on a week, but we'd probably need Chelsea to stump up half of it at the very least.

Shit, massively overpriced and a terrible attitude

Avoid like the plague

Re: Romelu Lukaku
Well, would he be prepared to play the Moyes way? My instinct says no.

Also I think a massive risk in terms of personality and what you get out of him. Motivation might be a huge issue. Absolute flop at three clubs (Chelsea x2 and Man U)

Season long loan, yes. Long term deal? No fucking chance.
The sort of player where if it works out you look like a genius, but if it doesn't, it can set a club like ours back massively, stuck with a really expensive player on a long contract who is essentially useless to you.

Re: Romelu Lukaku
Some valid points against the move, and agree with some of them. The fact that he is linked with us after some big moves tells you there is some kind of issue there.

But as a massive flop at Man Utd he scored 16 goals and 10 goals in each season. Then at Chelsea he scored 8 in half a season. (Only league goals included in this stat).

He is definitely capable of scoring goals but it's a risk.

Re: Romelu Lukaku
Actually it's a good point- TBH he did better at Man U than I recall, but still ended up being persona non grata there- in a sort of Maguire situation. And it's been really rocky with Chelsea so I guess it's just red flags. To be fair his career goals to games ratio is almost 1 in 2.

Re: Romelu Lukaku
I read somewhere he still considers himself one of the best strikers in world.

Much younger, hungrier and overall cheaper out there for me.

Poundland Antonio.

Re: Romelu Lukaku
I dont think he's a risk at all.
I think he found his level and then couldn't really kick on beyond that.

He's generally done well in mid level teams where he's the focal point and clearly better than anyone else. You let him do his thing and he will score.
Shoe horn him into an existing "elite" team and maybe not.

He struggled at Chelsea because Tuchel didn't play him where he expected to play. And then he had issues with Inter because he left them for Chelsea and they had problems with that from what I remember.

We've seen plenty of players not work in other clubs and do it for us (and vice versa).

Re: Romelu Lukaku
If we could get him on loan I don’t really see any downside
Also it would allow us to take a punt on a youngster like Ekitka or the such like as being in Europe we’ll have plenty of games to go round
Also allows Antonio to go he clearly wants out and if we can find somebody mug enough to take Ings off our hands we’d be in a far better position than we are now

Anybody thinks Lukaku isn’t better than what we have now needs their Fucking head tested

There's no chance this will happen. He can surely do better than us?

At the very least it would stop him scoring against us.

Really going out on a limb there.

In the league, our current centre forwards scored 7 goals for us combined last season. Of course we need an improvement.

At 25, Paqueta was our youngest player starting Sunday. If we are going spend money on a striker there are many options without adding another 30 year old.

I am not sure why we want to add slower, older options because they are big names.

Of course I want the version that scored against us every time.....but we are not going to get that version are we.......think about it......

Re: Romelu Lukaku
Talent not in question at all. Clearly miles better than what we have.

It's the cost and the baggage (and age) and will making him play like Antonio actually work?
